7 Solutions to Finding a Natural Toothache Remedy That Works For You

By Derek Blandford

When you experience severe toothache pain, the only thing on your mind is finding a solution that will help take away the pain. There's no doubt that a toothache can be debilitating and finding a cure isn't always easy. In some cases you may know why your teeth or gums hurt because you may have just got your wisdom teeth removed, may have a cavity, a broken tooth, tooth decay, etc. Other times the pain jolts you out of nowhere. Is there anything that can be done to prevent yet another trip to the dentist?

You may not realize it, but there are actually a wide variety of natural remedies for toothache. Results vary from person to person, but they are often worth trying before you make an expensive dentist visit. For a severe toothache, they may give you enough temporary relief to get back to sleep or make it through the day so you can keep up with your busy schedule.

Here are 7 solutions to finding a natural toothache remedy that works for you.

Mouth Wash Solutions

One way to relieve toothache pain is to wash and rinse your mouth with substances that help numb the tooth. This also has the added benefit of helping to remove food and other particles that may have become lodged in around the tooth causing the pain. To use each of the remedies below, simply mix them with a glass of warm water and swish them around in your mouth for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then, spit the solution out. Do not swallow. You can repeat the process as often as needed.

1.) Spoonful of salt
2.) Alcohol such as brandy, whiskey, scotch, or vodka (can be used without dilution in water)
3.) Hydrogen peroxide
4.) Tea tree oil (only requires 1 or 2 drops)
5.) Spoonful of baking soda

If the above mouth washes don't work, here are 2 other solutions you can try.

Ice Pack And/Or Heat Pack

Some toothaches respond better to cold while others respond better to heat. First try numbing the tooth with an ice pack. Cover an ice pack with a dish towel or cloth so it doesn't freeze your skin and hold it over your cheek where the problem tooth is located. If the cold doesn't seem to help take the pain away, then use a heating pad in the same way. Just be sure it isn't so hot that it burns your skin.

Make A Cup Of Tea

Not only can a cup of tea help soothe and relax you, but you can also use it to stop a toothache. To use tea as a toothache treatment, simply take the used tea bag after you've made your cup of tea and hold it over your problem tooth for a few minutes while it's still warm. The tannins from the bag will soak into your mouth and act as a natural numbing agent.

If you're still experiencing pain after trying the natural toothache remedies above, you may require a more powerful solution.

Teeth Whitening: Makes Your Smile Attractive

by Kathleen Chester

Everyone wants to have attractive white teeth. However, years of wear and certain foods like tea and coffee can leave yellowish stains on the teeth. Teeth may also become yellow due to smoking tobacco. Professional teeth whitening services can have them looking bright and new again, in just a few hours or minutes.

Though all persons start with sparkling white teeth, the same porcelain-like whitish tinge of enamel cannot be maintained after a certain period. The tooth enamel is composed of microscopic crystalline rods, and is designed to protect the teeth from the effects of gnashing, chewing, trauma, and acid attacks caused by sugar. Over the years, this enamel gets worn down and becomes more transparent. Thus, it results in the yellow color of dentin- the core material of the tooth, to show through.

During regular chewing the dentin remains intact, while millions of micro cracks occur in the enamel. These cracks, as well as the spaces between the crystalline enamel rods, get gradually filled up with stains and debris. As a result, the teeth eventually develop a dull, yellowish appearance. It loses the entire luster. Using teeth whitening equipments removes the stain and debris. However, at the same time it also leaves the enamel cracks open and exposed. Some of the cracks get quickly re-mineralized by saliva, while the rest are filled up with organic debris.

Many dentists are of the opinion that using professionally dispensed teeth whitening kits can produce the best results. However, this needs to be done under guidance of a dentist or a trained technician. The dentist also ensures whether or not the teeth can withstand the treatment, as too sensitive teeth may show adverse reaction.

Nowadays, professional teeth whitening are the most popular cosmetic dental procedure in the world. These yield results that can be seen immediately.
